Patina is the lustre that forms on the surface of an object through years of handling, a beauty that can only accumulate slowly, through long use.
Patina is the lustre that forms on the surface of an object through years of handling, a beauty that can only accumulate slowly, through long use.
This exhibition looks closely at the objects filling women's daily lives: worn out, replaced, forgotten, yet quietly keeping time. Through years of handling, these objects come to hold something of the women who used them, a quiet record of memory, labour, and relationships kept alive through touch. The exhibition asks what happens when such an object is lifted out of the endless cycle of use and given the chance to last, when the overlooked is granted the status of an archive.
The exhibition unfolds in three parts: Soaked, memory held in the body; Stitched, memory passed between generations; and Fermented, memory that becomes history.
