The Shape of Waiting is a week-long residency in which I will be working in the gallery, using painting as a way to sit with memory, grief, and absence without trying to resolve them.
Rather than representing specific stories or images, this work explores hesitation, repetition, erasure, and delay—allowing marks to remain unfinished and uncertain. The paintings develop slowly, through layering and restraint, holding space for what cannot be fully remembered, explained, or repaired.
This residency forms part of my Professional Doctorate research, which looks at how painting can operate as an ethical practice—one that stays with loss rather than turning it into narrative or closure. Visitors are welcome to observe the work as it unfolds across the week, encountering painting not as a finished statement, but as a process of waiting, attending, and care.
