Everything is too much: landscape, bodies, female archetypes are clashing and layered. Dug from the earth, pulled back to the earth. Quiet and cacophonous. It all is bursting out.
J. Williamson (b. 1979, Edinburgh, Scotland) is an artist based in London. Working primarily with clay and textiles, Williamson works predominately in sculptural and installation.
Their practice explores the relationship between female bodies, the ground, time, and female archetypes. Clay is central to the work — a material that physically connects bodies to the earth and to past and future civilisations. The work is driven by instinct and shaped by influences including science fiction, the restlessness of nature, motherhood, and lived bodily experience.
The artist will be present throughout the exhibition to talk about their work. Family-friendly activities will also be available.
